If you are a…
First-time attendee: It's possible you may be slightly overwhelmed at your first glance of the FPA Experience 2012 program. With a number of educational sessions to choose from — in addition to workshops, keynote presentations, exhibit hall activities and much more — it's a good thing you can plan your daily schedule in advance.
- Plan to attend the first-time attendee orientation on Saturday, September 29, from 2:15-3:15. Meet fellow first-time attendees and FPA ambassadors, ask questions, get on-site tips, learn about FPA membership and start off on the right foot.
- While you are at the conference, don't be shy. When entering a session room, find a seat next to someone and introduce yourself. Also introduce yourself to the speaker or speaker panel after the presentation.
- Ask questions. As a first-time attendee, you're not expected to know where to go, what to do or how to act. There are a lot of people available to answer your questions; look for anyone who is wearing a yellow badge lanyard (staff, student volunteers, Board and task force members).
- Seek out FPA Board members and strike up a conversation. Wander the exhibit hall and ask questions of the resource providers. The entire purpose of the FPA Experience is to fulfill your personal professional needs, so don't miss a single opportunity to build your network, gain additional knowledge and connect with your community!
International Attendee: FPA's annual convention attracts financial professionals from around the world. It is viewed as the place for international financial planners and those involved in the financial planning process to come together. This forum of international professionals includes the best and brightest from Canada, Europe, Asia, South America, Oceania and Africa.
Many attend annually, representing financial planning organizations from around the world. In fact, in 2011 more than 300 of the attendees were from outside of the United States and 27 countries were represented, the largest country representation FPA has ever had at its conference! So, take this opportunity to gather with your colleagues from around the world. Their challenges are similar to yours, but their solutions and perspectives on how to deal with them might be different.
